Bad bus day

January 15th, 2009

Well, today was a “bad busday.”  In fact, just about everything that could go wrong today DID go wrong!  The bus I was driving was an automatic (yay!) but that was the ONLY good thing about today’s run!  It was also rather strange because the regular driver did the early morning high school run but couldn’t do the elementary school morning run.  So I did that, and the afternoon run for both high school and elementary school.  Well, I pre-tripped the bus and it was all good.  Until the first stop to pick up kids – the bus door is supposed to open when I push a button and it didn’t open!  It opened during the pre-trip, but not for the kids!  So I had to unbuckle my seat belt, put the bus in neutral and pull the parking brake and push the door open manually.  For each stop.  Many many stops.

Naturally, that made the bus run late, and the kids were anxious and telling me I was dumb for not being able to open the door.  Well, after the morning run I took the bus to the garage and told them about the door not working – they said they’d have it fixed for the afternoon run.  Well, the afternoon run came, and the bus was not fixed so I had to drive an old rickety sub bus that is a standard transmission.  I don’t mind standard transmissions, but I do prefer automatics!  On this rickety sub bus though, the transmission was a stubborn cuss and worked really hard, and the door opened manually with a lever that was sticking and took both hands and a lot of effort to open and close.

Oh yeah, it was a bad bus day all right!  Glad it’s over!
