I’m either a hero, or an idiot

I’m not sure whether I’m a hero today, or an idiot. I was finished with my bus run, driving the bus back to “base” to park it for the night. I was stopped at a red traffic light, and a red pickup truck pulls up beside me (on my left.) I glanced at the truck and saw a boy about the age of 10 waving frantically at me. When he saw I was looking at him he mouthed the words “help me” to me. I started to open my window to ask him if he needed help, but just then the driver of the truck started to man-handle the boy and push him back hard into his seat. I could not see the driver’s face (or anything above the shoulders) but I got the impression from the hand that I saw that it was a man. So the boy sat back in his seat and then looked at me with his hand on his face with the saddest expression I’ve ever seen on a little boy!
Then the light turned green and we both started driving. Naturally a school bus drives slower than most other vehicles, but I pulled out slowly anyway because I wanted to get a look at the license plate. I wrote the number down, and as soon as I returned to base I called the sheriff’s office and told them what I saw. I explained that I had no idea what was going on, but that it made me feel creepy, so I wanted to report it. They said that they would try to find the vehicle and check it out.
So, I’m either a hero, or an idiot. I’ve never hoped to be an idiot before, but I think that maybe this time, I do hope that is the case!
