title pic Cold snap

Posted by Janice on March 17, 2009

One of the bigger challenges about substitute school bus driving is never knowing quite exactly how to dress during the changing seasons.  One day is warm, the next is cold.  Some days start out cold but warm up quickly.  Not knowing which bus you are going to drive is the biggest part of the equation – some buses have great heaters and/or fans, and some don’t.

There have been very cold days when I drove a bus for hours and it never warmed up.  I was certainly glad I was wearing long johns!  Yet there are other days when it is warm outside and I dress in short sleeves but the heater on the bus is malfunctioning and won’t turn off no matter what you do, and you roast!  Even turning on the fan and opening the windows doesn’t always help!  This week has been a cold snap and I have been bundling up as warm as I can, but it still is not pleasant driving around in a bus that won’t warm up.  I think that is one reason why I really don’t like driving a bus in the winter.
