Higher education

April 17th, 2009

I have a couple of relatives who have recently graduated from online schools with a college degree.  I got my college degree the traditional way – I went to a physical location and attended classes.  I was lucky to be able to do that and have the company that I worked for reimburse me for my tuition.  However, I have found that in this economy I am having trouble finding a job that utilizes my college degree and I have to wonder if I had made a mistake in spending all of that time and energy in pursuing that degree!  I’m finding that most of the places that I apply to work for tell me that I’m over-educated and that they don’t want to hire someone with a college degree!  It’s very discouraging.

However, if I WERE to consider taking more courses, I think that taking classes online is a great idea.  A good place to start looking for information about taking classes online is the allonlineschools.com website.  The only thing I don’t like about the website, though, is that when you want more information they don’t lead you to pages with more information, it makes you fill out a form and wait for the school to contact you.  I don’t like to wait; I’d rather it click through to more information!  With my schedule, playing telephone tag with a school is the last thing I want to do!
