This past weekend I met some new neighbors. I met them as I was walking the dogs. I saw one of those one way truck rental trucks parked in their driveway. I was wondering when they were going to move in! The house they are moving into has been empty for a couple of months, and the lawn was starting to look pretty sad. I was glad to finally see somebody moving in!
The people that were unloading the truck were a couple of young men and a woman. I introduced myself (and the dog) and asked if they were the ones that were going to be living there. They said yes they were. I invited them over for lunch when they got tired and needed a break. I figured that was a neighborly way to welcome them to the neighborhood! So they came over about noon, and only stayed for about an hour. I fixed up a couple of tuna fish sandwiches and served them with some fruit salad, chips, and soda. They were famished and made short work of all of the food!
During lunch I asked them why they chose to move themselves instead of using one of the budget van lines that are available now for people. They said that they just preferred to have complete control over every aspect of their moving. They have heard too many horror stories about precious family heirloom furniture being wrecked by movers and they wanted to make sure that everything was protected the way they wanted them to be protected. And they said that they couldn’t find any budget van lines that serviced the state they were moving from, so they just decided to do it all themselves.
