Mandatory safety meeting

August 13th, 2009

We all had to go to a mandatory safety meeting this past Wednesday.  It started at 8am, was supposed to go until noon.  “Light refreshments” served at 7:30am.  I arrived at about 7:20, hoping to find some of the folks I had become friendly with last year, but I didn’t see anyone there yet.  I signed in and stood in line for the “light refreshments” which consisted of some fresh fruit, bagels, pastries, and a choice of coffee, tea, orange juice or water.  I didn’t want any more caffeine as I’d already had my morning tea, and they didn’t have any decaf tea.  Plain water makes me nauseous, so I chose the orange juice.  That was the nastiest orange juice I’ve ever tasted in my life!  It tasted like sausage grease!  I threw it out and took a water instead.

The meeting itself was generally informative, but most of the drivers left disappointed.  There are going to be changes made that end up costing us all money.  We’ve asked for aides for some of the buses with unruly children and were told there is no money for that, yet we bought six new buses.  Go figure.  Yes, we needed the new buses, but we also need help with the unruly children!

And I still don’t have a bus run, so it will be another year of subbing for me!
