title pic Niece taking up band

Posted by Janice on August 1, 2009

This coming school year my thirteen year old niece is taking up band.  She wants to learn how to play percussion.  I’m proud of her for that because my father played percussion, and my youngest son played percussion.  We are a very musical family!  I used to take piano lessons when I was younger, and one of the hardest things about learning to play the piano was learning how to read music.  It wasn’t so hard for me to learn and remember to read the right hand sheet music, but I found it hard to learn to read the left hand.  I liked it when I memorized a song because then I could just play “by heart” and not bother to read the sheet music at all!

I wish that I had room in my house for a piano; I miss being able to play it!  But it has been so long since I’ve played the piano, I’d have to start all over again from the very beginning.  I bet I’d pick it up really quick though!  I’m a quick study!
