Surgical advances

August 7th, 2009

One of the things that I find fascinating about advancing technology is how technology can benefit the medical sciences. Take for example, the corkscrew electrodes.  I was watching a video that was explaining how they work, and the benefits of using them.  To be honest I couldn’t watch the entire video, the graphic shots of the patient being worked on in the operating room bothered me.  (I’ve always had a weak stomach; much to the dismay of my parents and grandmother who kept trying to convince me to become a nurse!)

But I was impressed by the benefits of using the single use medical electrodes.  Using these FDA approved corkscrew electrodes benefits the surgical team because they eliminate collodian drying time, are easy to insert, and they require little preparation. These time saving features help to drive the costs of surgery down, which helps hospitals to provide excellent patient care while minimizing costs.
