Used car versus new car

Last week Shirl sent me an email that she was going to try to buy a used car from the Drivetime dealer in Austin.  She lives only about a thirty minute drive from Austin and she told me that the Drive Time dealer was helping her to get a good deal on the car she wanted and is helping her to get financing for it too.  She’s very excited about it – she hasn’t had a good reliable car in years!

I can remember a couple of years ago a different friend of mine was looking at the Used cars ads in the local newspaper.  She had decided that she was going to buy a year old used car from a local car dealer that sold both new and used cars.  I looked at the ad she was referring to and found that she could buy the brand new car for only $300 more than the used car! 

I told her that she was crazy to buy a used car with only a 30 day warranty on it if she could buy the same thing new for only $300 more with a full warranty on it!  Sometimes I wonder what people are thinking when they are going to look at buying a car!
