What does it mean?

When I was in middle and high school, I took Spanish classes.  I had heard that Spanish was going to be more useful to me in my adult life than French would be.  Back then those were the only two choices we had!  French or Spanish!  I learned the language fairly quickly, and did well with it in school, but after I got out of school I moved to an area where there simply were no opportunities for me to use what I had learned.  Eventually I forgot most of it.  Not all of it, but most of it. 

When I moved back into the southern area where I live now, I found that I was exposed to a lot of people who spoke Spanish and some of the Spanish I had learned in school started to slowly come back.  Enough so that I could act as a translator on a small scale if I needed to communicate with an ESL student on my bus.  There have been times, though, that I couldn’t figure out a translation to fit the need, so I have been musing over the options to me at this time.  I really don’t want to take a class; I’m tired of studying!

I’ve been lucky and found a couple of places that offer online translation services, and even found some that offer free translation; some are so quick and easy that you can enter the phrase in one language and it will convert it to the other language.  But I’ve also found some interesting services where translations can be arranged for large documents.  I think it sounds like a fun job, being a professional translator!   It sure makes me wish that when I was in school that the schools had offered more than just French and Spanish!
