Going through Daddy’s things

December 5th, 2009

Over the Thanksgiving my step-mother came over for a meal and brought with her a small box of things that she said belonged to my father.  Daddy passed away a few years ago, and I was always sad that he had not left anything to any of his children, only to her.  You know, come to think of it, I never saw a copy of his will, I wonder if his will REALLY said that!

Regardless, she gave me the box and told me that I could pick something out from the box if I wanted, as a momento of him.  I saw a nice titanium watch in the box and decided that I would take that.  I have a penchant for watches, as does one of my sons.  We both think that they are essential fashion accessories.

I think that when my son marries and has his first child that I will give him that watch.  I’ll enclose a note in with the watch, a sentimental little note about how the watch belonged to my father, and how I wanted him to have the watch as a reminder of how little time we have on this earth and to cherish every minute he has with his family.  Because life is fragile, and you never ever really know exactly how much time you have on this earth.
