Thanks for the guest post Michael Urbanek

Four years have passed since the car accident happened that ruined my life. I was on my way home from work when I was rear ended by a car whose driver was too busy talking on the phone to realize that the cars in front of her had stopped for a red traffic signal.

She rear-ended the vehicle in front of me, pushing that vehicle into the rear of my truck. At the time of impace I was in the process of changing the CD in the CD player, since I had already stopped for the traffic light. I was badly injured as a result of the accident, and we had to hire a lawyer to help us to recover the costs of the accident. I wish that we had been able to find a claim calculator on the Internet back then to help us figure out what type of award we might be able to expect from the accident. As it is we still have not yet settled from the accident, and I am thinking that we never will see any money from it.

It must suck to have to wear the same old uniform day in and day out. The only good thing I can imagine is that you never have to worry about what to wear that day, only needing to make sure that your limited supply of uniforms are clean and wrinkle free and what shoes to wear. And comfortable shoes can make or break your day, as we all know.

So many of today’s medical professionals can choose from a variety of scrub clothing that we are seeing more and more of out and about in our daily lives, much like the ones that you can find at http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/Scrubs-for-Women/. The ones that are geared for the pediatric sector are really cute. I’m sure it makes a difference for the kids that they deal with each day and hopefully cheer up the place as well. Lord knows a busy pediatrics office can use all the cheering up that they can get. I can’t imagine working in that environment with all the crying and screaming kids day after day after day…….

Yesterday morning my hubby woke me up early, (it was still dark out) telling me to drink my tea (he brought it to my bedside) and get dressed because he wanted to go to the emergency room. It took a moment to register, but as soon as it did I was pretty awake! So I quickly got up, chugged my tea, threw on some clothes and we were out the door pretty quickly. I didn’t rush around a whole lot though because I figured that if he was really worried that he would have had me call an ambulance. He just told me that he felt really bad.

It wasn’t until we were almost there that he told me that he was having chest pains and difficulty breathing. So at that point I started to drive a little bit faster, but below the “driving to endanger” speed; I certainly did not need to get pulled over and be given a ticket, and I had to drive through a couple of well-known speed traps. Thankfully the speed traps were not set up yet and we got to the hospital without any delays. And there was only one time when a deer ran out in front of the car.

When we got to the hospital, I pulled up in front of the doors and quickly walked into the ER where the receptionist looked up at me. I told her that I had a man in the car with chest pains and difficulty breathing, turned right around and went back out to the car. I helped my hubby get out of the car and we walked into the ER where there was a group of about four employees coming to the door with a wheelchair. They took right over and wheeled him straight into the trauma room. I only stayed behind long enough to tell the receptionist his name and birthdate, told her that he was already in the system, everything was current, and went back to the car to park it.

When I came back from parking the car, the receptionist told me to go straight into the room where he was. That was the fastest I’ve ever been allowed into the examination rooms. I have to say I was impressed.

Yesterday my doctor called me and told me that I could come in to his office today to get my H1N1 flu shot! I was very happy to oblige! I tend to catch just about ever bug that is even thinking about being around me, and I was keeping my fingers crossed that I’d get vaccinated in time to avoid catching the flu! I understand that I’m still vulnerable for a couple of weeks before it “takes effect” but I am hopeful that I will be lucky enough to avoid catching it now. And I’m really glad that the vaccination was free, too!

Funny thing is I’ve never even heard of Nathan’s, but I’m finding that that isn’t so unusual with a lot of the taste tests that I have been running across on Yahoo.com and other sites that I stumble onto.

As far as I’m concerned as long as it is made of beef Oscar Myer is still tops in my book and when I have a coupon and/or find them on sale I stock up on them so they are a pretty cheap food that I’ve been enjoying since childhood. My mother always served Oscar Myer and still does.

My next door neighbor, MsJoan, is a wonderful woman. I have always dreamed of having a neighbor just like her and I am truly blessed to be able to shout to the world how lucky we all are to have such good people in the neighborhood. She is like a mother to me and a grandmother to our two sons, hubby even has called her mom on occasion, which really freaks me out since he doesn’t even call his own mother that, it always has been and always will be “mother” which is just freaky to me, but to each his own, right?

Anyway, Ms Joan decided last night to attempt to walk down the stairs to her basement by herself (which has been a big no no for the past year since she experienced a stroke) and ended up taking a tumble down the last 5 steps, landing on the cold concrete floor. It is a good thing that our houses are so close together and that the boys were outside playing in the driveway so that they heard her hollering and came running inside and got me and told me what was going on. Before I went running out the door to help her I called 911 and got an ambulance on it’s way to get her medical attention as soon as possible even before I really knew that she needed a doctor.

I rode along with her to the hospital and stayed with her for the 8 1/2 hour ordeal. Going to the E.R. by yourself just isn’t cool in my book. I even have an E.R. Bag that I keep handy for these types of trips, which I grabbed before climbing in the ambulance. It is always cold in every E.R. that I’ve ever been in, so I have a light blanket packed along with a book,a water bottle, some chewing gum and Tic Tacs, a Word Search or Cross Word Puzzle book, a pair of socks, our extra cell phone charger, a roll of quarters for the vending machines along with a few snacks to help keep the growlies at bay.

It was a busy night at the E.R. all the doctors and nurses running around in their 100 cotton scrubs, most likely ordered from http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/Scrubs-for-Women/Original-Scrubs/ all the while trying to keep cool while tending to the dozens of patients that were streaming in and out of the place, demanding of their time and medical talents. They had several box fans located throughout the place that they kept picking up and moving in order to get some type of relief from the horrible heat from this heatwave that we have been experiencing these past few weeks, bless their hearts. As if their jobs weren’t difficult enough all ready.

Anyways, Ms Joan came out of the ordeal with just a few bumps and bruises, she could have easily broken her hip or her neck for heaven’s sake. But they checked her out from head to toe, did all types of tests, poked and prodded her until she was ready to jump out of that bed and get the heck out of there and get back home.

The missed call on my phone this afternoon was from my dentist office, reminding me that I have an appointment next week. Wasn’t that nice of them? I bet a lot of people hate going to the dentist so much that they manage to forget their appointments. Probably more so than doctor appointments get forgotten. And in tough economic times, I suspect that expensive dental appointments are one of the things that get dropped off the budget where there is not enough money to go around, especially if they don’t have a dental plan to help.

Thankfully, I found a type of medical plan to help keep medical and dental costs down. I heard about Ameriplan from a friend who is self employed and works from home. Since she was not a member of a big employee group, she had a tough time finding a good health plan for herself and her family.

I would like to know more about her discount plan to see if that might help my younger sister. She’s been laid off for almost a year now and is trying to decide if she should keep paying thee COBRA from her old old job or find something less expensive that will help her until she goes back too work.

This guest post from Arlene Guthrie

I love to sit down and watch how to look good naked on my Cable tv because the show not only provides some great insight on how to love your body, but the best way to accentuate your best qualities. I feel like too many shows these days tell people that they should be skinny and perfect looking and this show really makes people feel pretty no mater their weight or style. The host is also so funny and makes everyone feel so comfortable in their own skin that you can see his caring and empathetic personality.

I love to see the extreme measures in which the host, Carson Kressley, goes to show the one person on the show how beautiful their body can be at any weight. They so! metimes put pictures of them in little clothes in a very public place, or my favorite is when he had a lady wear lingerie down a runway in the middle of a mall for all to see. Having them overcome their fears and really seeing how others see them. The idea that people can love their bodies more then them starts to begin the journey of loving their bodies as much as others do. I love the self esteem behind the show and watch it every chance I get.

Dean came home from work today, totally exhausted. He had to pull a double shift, and he thought that spring allergies have already started on him. Well, I think he is running a fever, and he looks terrible! I think it is more than allergies. I gave him a zinc lozenge and told him to take a shower while I fixed him some won ton soup and a sandwich to eat.

I also gave him a breathe right nasal strip to try out to see if it helps him sleep. I know he said he didn’t sleep at all last night, so pulling a double shift after a sleepless night when you feel like you’ve been hit by a truck doesn’t go easy! I hope he sleeps well tonight, and am thankful that he has tomorrow off of work so he can sleep all day if he needs to.
