Tuesday night is my favorite night for TV. I’ll tune into MTV and live vicariously through Whitney Port who stars in “The City.”

I’m satisfied with where I live now and visit friends who live in New York City every once in a while but I don’t know if I could ever live there. So I just watch people who do on reality TV shows.

Whitney’s line of clothing is so cute and I even have a dress from it but I’m not going to go out and buy the whole collection. I love to get inspiration from her and what all the other people that work at People’s Revolution wear, including the owner Kelly Cutrone. But for times when I’m not watching TV, I love to browse style websites like Street Peeper with my Clearwire Internet Service. The website is just pictures and descriptions of outfits people wear on the street that are out of the ordinary or are just put together really well.

Sometimes I wish I could get away with wearing a lot of the outlandish stuff that people in NYC do, but living vicariously through people on “The City” and Street Peeper will have to do.

Post written by mommy blogger Melanie Collado

Lately my neighborhood has been going through some very pleasing changes. More attention is being focused on safety and kids, like it should be. After a few incidents that took place recently (theft and break ins) with some of our residents, changes were made immediately.

More and more House alarms are being set each day, and we also decided to find out how to get adt around Chicago. Many changes including manicured lawns, new bike trails, and cleaner streets are taking effect right now.

The streets around here feel much safer, and it’s a good feeling to know that our neighborhood actually tries to keep us comfortable.

Overall our neighborhood watch has really progressed these past few weeks. Families come out more and the playground is usually filled all the time now. There are also more events that take place to ensure that everyone gets to know their neighbors. It’s an amazing feeling to know that you’re not the only one wanting to make your neighborhood safe and secure. I can honestly say that my neighborhood now feels like a home.

Yesterday was Mother’s Day. My oldest son took me out to see a movie (his treat, so his choice – Ironman 2 of course!) and then out to dinner at a Chinese Restaurant. This particular restaurant we had only been to once before, and we were impressed with the quality of food so we decided to go back there again. This time, however, the food did not taste as good. I ordered the sweet ‘n sour chicken (my favorite!) and the taste was a little bit off. I don’t know if the oil was going bad or not, but it just wasn’t something that would bring me back there again!

We ordered a couple of alcoholic beverages to try (neither one of us are “drinkers”) and we exchanged sips. His drink was a Mai Tai, and mine was a drink with a bad name that I shouldn’t put on the Internet! Both of them the alcoholic content was so strong that we really couldn’t tell the difference between them as far as taste goes! A little bit later I had a headache, so I’m not sure if it was MSG in the food or if they had used cheap rum in the drinks. Either one of those will give me a headache!

But neither one of us finished our drinks, so we were both fine to drive home. I offered to drive, but my son really wasn’t even tipsy. I don’t think he’ll order another Mai-Tai!

Last night my sister and I went to a hafla party to celebrate the first day of spring! We got all dressed up in our newest, prettiest costumes, fussed over our makeup and hair and arrived fashionably ten minutes late. When we arrived, we discovered that no other guests had arrived yet. The party was scheduled to run from 8pm – 11pm, and we know that dozens of people were invited and said that they were coming! As it turns out, we were the ONLY guests to arrive at all – until 10:30! Although we enjoyed ourselves dancing and talking, and sharing choreographs we felt very badly for the hostess that no one else arrived! But I am glad for her sake that we came – it would have been terrible if NO ONE showed up at all!

Over the past several years I have had to take my husband to a lot of appointments. Doctors, hospitals, dentists. You name it, I’ve had to take him there. Of course I bring along something to read (or knit, or crochet) but sometimes I finish what I’m working on and I end up looking for something to do while waiting. If I could sleep sitting up, I certainly would do that! But since I can’t do that, I end up watching the Commercial DIRECT TV that most of them have in their waiting rooms.

I’ve noticed that DIRECT TV Business seems to be just about everywhere I go – even at the fast food restaurants! As long as I’m not sitting right underneath them, I’m usually glad that they have the DIRECT TV for Business turned on. I’m alone at most of those places, and it helps to take away the awkward sting of being alone in places like that. Of course if the place has free WiFi and electric outlets, that’s all good too! Then I can at least go online and blog! But not every place has that, so watching the news or the Today show is great, too.

I absolutely love living in rural Virginia. I love looking out from my living room window at the cows, sheep, and horses grazing in the fields across the street. I love how quiet the nights are, and how easily I can see the stars because the is virtually no light pollution. But let me tell you, with this blizzard we just had, we had a power outage of seven hours, and even after the power came back on the cable television and Internet did not come back on for almost twenty-four hours!

My entire family was just about climbing the walls because we had no Internet access for so long! I think I’ll be checking out the wildblue satellite internet services to see what their rates are. I don’t want to be without Internet again! I can’t believe how dependent my family has become on it for so many functions – entertainment, communications, paying bills, shopping….. We depend on it so much!

Now that the Internet has come back up on line, the entire family has parked themselves in front of their respective computers. Watching shows, checking their emails, playing games. I have to make sure that the bills I needed to pay got paid! I hope I didn’t miss any deadlines!

I find it confusing when I watch television to see so many commercials advertising the many different satellite television providers. I can remember when I was a little girl, we only had rabbit ears on our television set! Eventually we had a fixed position roof-top antennae, then one that rotated. We thought that was high tech for sure! When cable television came out, I was still quite young and couldn’t understand why anyone would pay for television! After all, we had perfectly great free television! Let’s see, we had three major networks, a local network, and public television! What more could anyone want?

We were told that pay television was going to be popular because it was going to be commercial-free. Well, I don’t know how long that lasted, because by the time I purchased cable television it was full of commercials! I can remember the day my hubby ordered our first satellite service! I don’t know how many satellite tv providers there were at the time – it was back in the 1980’s! There might have been only one satellite tv provider at the time! The satellite dish was HUGE! And it was a huge eyesore as well! I think it is remarkable the progresses that have been made in television technology. The dishes are very small now, and the choices are many. It can be a tough decision to make!

Have you ever been to the Houston Rodeo? My girlfriend Sarah lives in Texas and she has invited me to come down to visit her and go to the rodeo with her next March. She said she will pay for tickets to concerts at the Houston Rodeo if I agree to come down.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to a rodeo! I can remember it pretty clearly though – the sights and smells and the excitement in the air! The only thing I didn’t like about the rodeo I went to was the uncomfortable bleacher seats we had to sit on. I wonder if the seats at the Houston Rodeo are any better!

I was looking at the concert schedule online and saw that Tim McGraw will be performing there on March 8. I enjnjoy his music a lot. I’d really like to go see him perform; I have a couple of his CDs. I just can’t imagine, though, going to a full day rodeo show and then stay to watch a full concert afterwards! I’m not sure that I have that much energy anymore at my age! I wonder if buying the tickets include the full day at the rodeo and then the concert afterwards, or if you have to buy them seperately. I didn’t see that information online – I’ll have to dig a little deeper I guess.
