A sad state of affairs

One of the things that I don’t like about Facebook is that so many people that I like use it as a method to spread messages of hatred. And by that I really am not referring to the obvious bigotry and politics, but I’m talking about spreading gossip about their ex-spouse or ex-romantic interest. That tends to make the person that I really like the most to declare to everyone else out there that they are going to de-activate their Facebook account. And I think that is a real shame, because I really had hoped that Facebook would be used to bring people together, not alienate them. Sad that a few bad apples ruin the entire barrel, don’t you agree?

Pot luck party

Today in between the morning bus run and the afternoon bus run, the drivers had a pot-luck Christmas party at the office. Everyone brought in a ton of food! We had a really hard time squeezing everyone into such a small space! It was nice being able to visit for a while with the other drivers that I usually just wave to as I see them driving past me on their routes. There were a couple of folks there that often give me attitude; I just tried to avoid them – no point in ruining my day listening to their bull.

There are a couple of drivers that I really like, but don’t seem to get the chance to visit very often, so I spent most of my time with them. Before we all knew it, it was time to do the afternoon run! I’d like to do this more often! Starting tomorrow afternoon, we will have a two week break because there is no school for those two weeks. Part of the downside of being a substitute driver is that I don’t get paid for holidays, but the regular drivers DO get paid for holidays. Oh well, that can’t be helped! I really don’t want the hassle of being a regular driver and having to beg for time off when I want time off! As a substitute, I can take any days off that I want off, and that’s how I like it!

The boss quit!

I got a phone call tonight from one of my fellow bus drivers – one that I’m very friendly with. She just wanted to chat, and I was happy to oblige. We talked for about an hour on the phone, filling each other in on what was going on in our lives. She told me that our boss had quit his job! I hadn’t heard that; I was shocked! I asked her why he had quit and she told him that it was because his boss had told him that he had to cut back on all of the driver’s paid hours, in order to trim the budget. Our boss refused to do that, and said he’d quit instead. So he quit! I don’t know who is going to replace him, or when, but I will miss the guy, he was really nice!
